Mrs. Ameena Austin and her husband have been farming at Ruby, St. Philip for the past 12 years. Although she has had no formal education in agriculture - she credits her parents, who were also farmers, for teaching her the skill.

She now grows a variety of crops including cabbage, carrots, tomatoes, peppers, okras, eggplant, pumpkin and lettuce and only recently romaine lettuce.

As part of a new initiative, Super Centre is encouraging local farmers to grow crops which are normally imported; romaine lettuce is one such crop. Ameena now supplies all of the Super Centre supermarkets with the Romaine Lettuce she grows.
