Harry Lyn Huff

St. Michael and All Angels Cathedral will next Thursday, December 28 come alive with the sound of organ music, at a recital to raise funds for Barbados’ HIV/AIDS programme.

The National HIV/AIDS Commission will benefit from the event, which is under the patronage of Prime Minister, Owen Arthur and Mrs Arthur.

Mr. Harry Lyn Huff, Assistant Organist and Choirmaster in The Memorial Church in Harvard University, and Director of Music and Lecturer on Ministry at the Harvard Divinity School will play selections from Bach, Dandrieu, Franck, and Tchaikovsky.

Mr. Huff’s recent solo organ performances have included the Peter Schickele "PDQ Bach" concerts in Carnegie Hall and the Metropolitan Opera's new production of Busoni's Doktor Faust. He presented the American premiere of Philip Glass's Voices for Organ and Didgeridoo in Alice Tully Hall for the 2001 Lincoln Center Festival with Aboriginal didgeridoo player Mark Atkins, and appeared with the Paul Winter Consort on the newly restored Massey concert organ at the 2003 Chautauqua Summer Festival.

The organ recital commences at 8:00 p.m. and tickets are available from the Cathedral office. The telephone number is 427-0709.

It is a cruel reality that there is a general attitude of aloofness and disdain towards the issues of HIV/AIDS. Those infected often find themselves battered by the hands of alienation and stigmatisation. In many instances, those who engage in sexual practices that put them at risk prefer to live in denial than face life as an infected person.

Through this comprehensive web portal, we here at the Ministry of Health hope to combat the many ideologies and practices that promote and perpetuate behaviours that may lead to HIV/AIDS infection. We also want to assure those who are at risk and those who have been infected that are places to go and communities that care.

We welcome you to Barbados HIV/AIDS Information Portal and hope that the information provided will be of value to you.
